From our discussions, here is what digital literacy means to us:
- Engagement of learners using visuals, sounds, graphics....... in order to deepen responses. A way for students to respond, organize, show what they know and share with others. Integrating reading and writing so students move forward. Having an ongoing dialogue.
- Using technology to make the printed word come alive. More exciting, more accessible for our students. To motivate.
- The ability to make sense of the digital world. It involves skills to use technology efficiently and the ability to ethically and critically think about how, when and why to use technology.
- The use of technology to enhance students learning in the areas of Language Arts, Social Studies etc.
- Incorporating aspects of technology to enhance reading comprehension. The ability to develop real skills to manage texts online. Students using technology to express their understanding of text.
- Using the tools available through technology to aid literacy skills. Using multiple modes of input to help various aspects of literacy (pre-reading, comprehension, accessing prior knowledge, fluency, vocabulary development).
- Providing a different way to engage students. Using visual, auditory strengths of different kinds of learners.
- Learning, understanding and sharing ways to enhance literacy. Technology as a supporting tool to enrich learning.
- Digital literacy is using web tools, social media, video etc. to enrich the learning of the individual. It accesses more of the senses and allows individuals to show their understanding in a variety of ways.
- Integrating technology daily into reading, writing etc. To push students and my own thinking. It means the need for dollars, time and new resources.
- Knowledge of and use of digital media and technology such as web sites, videos, images, videos, wikis, apps, audio etc. to inquire and learn about the world.
- Marrying visual and language together. Helping students discover what they can learn from technology.
